I started it for at least 5 times, and the only reason I finished finally is that my 13 years old cousin recommended it and I wanted to see what kind of books she likes so I could buy her some later.
It was reeeeeal boring. I hadn't the nice cottage feeling and hadn't the feeling of the pleasure of making something out of nothing. I guess I should have felt like when I was watching "A good year" or "Under the Tuscan sun" , but it just wasn't very... authentic.
I didn't really feel the romance between her and Rob, it was more like he was a bossy and quite annoying neighbour who can't pull his nose out of other people's business. Do greyhounds really need so much thing? Do dogs really need to be treated like a child? This is something I've never been able to understand, although I had dogs, I loved them like hell, and cared for them deeply. But this caring was a little too much for me, it felt like the dog was the main character in the book (so maybe that's why my girl likes it so much? She just got a yorkie... :) )
Before the fire, basically nothing happened that is worth to mention. Seriously. She just always talked about Max and the house and the dog and bla bla. Of course there wouldn't be a problem with this if it had a few valuable thoughts or it had that feeling I wrote about before, but it didn't. And after the fire it was like, hey let's move in together! Okey-dokey! ;) I mean, after the fire there was that misunderstanding and she behaved like a brat about it and ran away. So childish. And then Rob comes with that ridiculous speech about Dex and Caroline and I wanted to hit myself. They haven't even a date, and moving together already? so weird.
About the characters: not really fancied any of them, especially the main ones, including Chloe.
But the good thing about this book is, I got to learn some British words and the taste of my little cousin, and now I know I would never want a greyhound.

Love her books. Always delightful characters.
I love Katie Fforde books. They are so hilarious and Practically Perfect did not disappoint. There are some perfectly awkward moments between Anna and Rob Hunter that just make you squirm, but they are so funny. I loved Chloe she was hilarious and always had the solution for everything. This book stays true to Katie Fforde's style and was very enjoyable.
I always enjoy reading Katie Fforde. All of her titles are amongst my keepers to reread at leisure.
PRACTICALLY PERFECT has a very talented young heroine and mixes her struggles to renovate a a listed cottage with her feelings for two very different men. The story line also weaves in the difficulties of rehoming retired greyhounds and daily life in a small village.
I don't like to give too much away for those who haven't read PRACTICALLY PERFECT, but, as in all good chic-lit novels, there are issues beyond romance including friendships and family.
Katie Fforde writes stand-alone books, each having different themes and new characters. And each is well worth reading. Her female characters, regardless of age, remind of friends in England, the stories are told with humor. Each book leaves me satisfied and hoping there will be a new Katie Fforde out one out soon.
Katie Fforde writes great fiction and this book was no exception. Light hearted with realistic characters bring a practical view of maturing heroes and heroines. A happy read...
I had forgotten I had previously read this book, but enjoyed it just as much the second time, as it was one of my favorites. I learned for the first time (well, the first time I read it) what the difference between an interior decorator and an interior designer is; dumb me, I hadn't given it any previous thought. And how can anyone resist dog lovers? The sparks and misunderstandings between these two was fun to "watch," not to mention the nicknames!
I thought this book was just okay. Perhaps it was due to reading it on the , but their were a bunch of spelling and grammatical errors throughout. I love these kinds of books to read over a weekend, on vacation, etc., but overall the plot and characters were kind of odd. The whole time, it felt like the author was interjecting a objective point of view to a situation where the main character was being emotional, like (not a literal quote), "The main character is so angry at him for saying that! But he is really just doing his job, so she can't really be mad at him." There were quite a few moments where it went from hot to cold like that, and it was hard to follow. It felt unnatural, since most people would be angry at something and reflect on it later and feel more reasonable about a situation. It really bugged me in the first few chapters, so I almost stopped reading.
